Umpires

SDNA works hard to train umpires and ensure that there is a development program in place for them to become proficient in their role.  If you are concerned about the umpiring during a game, SDNA and Sandy Starlets have a process as follows:

  • Firstly remember that each week there are new umpires who are training. We ask that you show them your support.  Many of them are players from our club and we need them to learn to be effective umpires in the future.
  • Do not approach the umpire directly or audibly criticize them.
  • Send the Team Manager (or a parent if the TM is not available) to one of the umpire supervisors (in yellow or orange vests) around the courts and ask them to view the game.
  • If you cannot locate an umpire supervisor, please go to the umpire’s room behind the office and talk to the chief umpire Supervisor.
  • Please ensure you take action as soon as possible so the umpire supervisor can properly view the game.
  • If the Coach and Team Manager want to make a complaint after the game, please provide specific details to Sandy Starlets Netball Club (refer to contact details on our website) who will pass it onto SDNA
  • If a player or parent wants to make a complaint they should lodge it with the Team Manager who will then consult with the Coach.

If the umpires are more experienced, you can, as the Coach (only), approach an umpire if it is simply about clarification of a rule.
