Game Day

Game Day is an exciting opportunity for your team to show how they are developing as players and to put into play what they have practiced at training sessions.  You will see below some useful tips that will help you make the most of Game Day.

  • Arrive at the courts 15 minutes before the game to warm up the players and assign positions.
  • Minimise player instruction during the game as players are unlikely to hear you, it could interfere with player instructions and instructions are better given before the game and at half time.
  • Quarter and three quarter time is a straight changeover and normally whilst you can make positional changes there is no time for player instruction.
  • Choose a spot to stand for the entire game – DO NOT run along the side of the court.
  • Use your player book to record observations, instructions and to make plans for training sessions.
  • In the case of U11 and U13 teams, better to focus on 2 main things per game (such as stepping or getting in front) rather than a whole range of skills.
  • PLAYERS OFTEN ONLY REMEMBER THE LAST THING YOU SAID BEFORE THEY TAKE THE COURT SO PLAN WHAT THIS WILL BE.
